After a long day of playing in the sun, few things are more appealing than a glass of homemade lemonade.

For a sweeter touch, try adding in a bit of fresh strawberries, or if you'd like a new take on this classic refreshment, try switching out the lemon juice for lime.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 3⁄4 cup white sugar
  • 1 1⁄2 cups lemon juice
  • 1 1⁄2 cups fresh or frozen macerated strawberries (optional)

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and sugar. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a boil for about a minute. Allow mixture to cool, then cover and refrigerate until chilled.

  • Remove seeds from lemon juice. Leave pulp if desired, or else strain to remove. In large pitcher, stir together lemon juice, chilled sugar mixture and remaining 7 cups water. Add strawberries if desired.
